Twist of the Blade has just been published, but we’re already looking ahead to Book 3 in The Shards of Excalibur, The Lake in the Clouds. Here’s the cover art! Pretty, isn’t it?

Come meet me at Word on the Street Saskatoon!
I’m really looking forward to being a featured author at Word on the Street in Saskatoon on September 21. I’ll be part of a panel (along with Arthur Slade, Sean Cummings, and Jefferson Smith) called Other Worlds on the Prairies, focusing on writing science fiction and fantasy, which will be (appropriately enough) in the “Brave New World” tent at 2:30. We’ll be talking and taking questions for an hour, then we’ll be signing books.
The image is the poster WOTS is putting up in high schools. Cool, huh?
Hope to see you there!

Quill & Quire likes Twist of the Blade
Quill & Quire, “Canada’s Magazine of Book News and Reviews,” gives Twist of the Blade a great review (Q&Q liked Song of the Sword, too, in its original version):
Regina-based author Edward Willett offers a satisfying second instalment in his Shards of Excalibur series, a modern-day fantasy based on the legend of King Arthur…
Twist of the Blade offers an enticing sense of danger and excitement as Ariane pursues her mission, but the narrative doesn’t shy away from the story’s human elements…It’s refreshing to read a story in which the heroes and villains are not cut-and-dried, and readers can look forward to three more instalments in this genuinely entertaining myth-based series.

Great review for Song of the Sword from CanLit for Little Canadians
Helen Kubiw gives Song of the Sword a great review at CanLit for Little Canadians, writing in part:
Because Edward Willett ensures that there is a lot of action in Song of the Sword as well as emotional issues of family and trust, it’s a fantasy that will grip teens of both genders…Edward Willett blends the humour with the ethereal fantasy of Song of the Sword so easily…Readers will be right in there, cheering for Ariane and Wally, worried with every obstacle that jumps into their path, hopeful that the bad guy won’t prevail.

Kirkus Reviews likes Twist of the Blade even more than Song of the Sword
The first review of Twist of the Blade has shown up, and it’s a good one. Kirkus Reviews says:
The sequel to Song of the Sword (2014) improves on its foundation….Willett realistically explores the difficulties Ariane and Wally face and paints Rex Major in such a light that readers may be unsure as to whether he is a master manipulator or misunderstood hero…Engrossing and more nuanced than its predecessor. (Fantasy. 12-16)
And if you like, you can preorder now from Coteau Books!

Twist of the Blade page up at Coteau Books
Coteau Books has a great website with pages for all of their books…and Twist of the Blade‘s page is now live! You can download a high-res version of the cover art and pre-order the print or ebook version right from that page.
Here’s the description:
Having saved the first Shard of the sword Excalibur from internet mogul Rex Major (aka Merlin), Ariane and Wally are on the lookout for the second. Wally’s worried that the power of the first Shard is already changing Ariane, giving her the strength to do both good and evil…and when she seriously hurts his bullying sister Flish, it seems he might be right.
Twist of the Blade releases to the public on September 15…just in time for my appearance at Word on the Street in Saskatoon!

Me, signing
Had a successful signing in Saskatoon at McNally Robinson over the weekend. Here are a couple of photos…
Twist of the Blade will be out before long–beginning of September–and there’ll be a more formal launch of the whole series then. I’ll also be at Word on the Street in Saskatoon on September 21 to promote The Shards of Excalibur. Watch for news of more signings for Twist of the Blade in the near future!
Meanwhile, if you’re interested in more of my YA fantasy, be sure to head over to my E.C. Blake website (E.C. Blake is a pseudonym of mine) and check out The Masks of Aygrima. Book 1, Masks, is out now, and Shadows, book 2, will be out at the beginning of August.

One Song of the Sword signing down, two to go…
I had a great signing of Song of the Sword Chapters Regina on Saturday–lots of people stopped to talk, and sold about a dozen books over the three hours, which is pretty good for these sorts of things.
Next Saturday, June 28, I’ll be in Saskatoon, reading and signing at McNally Robinson at 1 p.m., then moving over to Indigo for 4 to 6 p.m.
Hope to see you there!
